Rain Gutter System Parts:
Contact RayAccess if any of the below parts are missing or need repair.
Fascia board, fascia hanger brackets or spikes, gutter aprons, splash guards, end caps, splices, drop outlets, and miters (elbows), downspouts, gutter screens, gutter sections.
Gutter Repair Issues:
Loose Gutters:
If gutters sections get loose or sag, eventually, they will fall off the house. Spikes connect the gutter sections to the fascia board. Spikes get loose over time and need to be pounded back in. A longer-lasting alternative to gutter spikes is installing fascia hanger brackets. Besides gutter sections, miters and downspouts can also lose their connection.
Water Dripping Behind Gutter:
Poorly installed gutters will leak because metal flashing was not installed over the back of the gutter. An easy fix is to install gutter aprons which is a bent piece of flashing that tucks under roof shingles and over the gutter. Gutter aprons are sold in 10 feet sections at home improvement stores.
Annoying Drips Inside Downspout:
If a downspout is in close proximity to a bedroom window, water dripping can be very annoying. An easy fix is to run a nylon rope inside the downspout to keep water from plummeting the entire length. Water drops will cling to the rope instead of at the bottom creating that loud dripping noise at the miter.
Gutter Overflow:
During a rainstorm, does water flow over your gutters due to the shape of your roof? An easy fix is to install a diverter that is sheet metal acting as a splash guard. The splash guard helps direct water from the roof back into the gutter where it belongs.
Damaged Sections:
Damaged gutter sections can be replaced instead of installing a new gutter system. Damaged sections need replacement due to rusting, misalignment, and bending. Poor installation or environmental factors usually damage gutters.
Leaking Joints:
Gutter systems contain several components all connected to form the rain gutter system. If the joints or connection points are not airtight, gutter joints will develop leaks. Leaking joints can lead to mold growth, rotting, and water damage.
How Much Does Gutter Repair Cost:
Every repair is different, and all gutter repair issues require a site visit. Generally, gutter repair is performed after a gutter cleaning job. Estimates are determined based on the access difficulty, materials needed, and labor rate. Materials needed during repairs include paint, sealant, screws, nails, metal straps, and various components listed above (see section: rain gutter system parts).
Gutter Repair Vs. Gutter Replacement:
Gutter repair involves fixing loose gutter sections or downspouts by adding straps or screwing parts back together. Also realignment or adding splash guards if water is not flowing directly to the downspout. Gutter repair includes caulking or painting joints.
Gutter replacement involves replacing a damaged section with a new section.
Alternative Services:
Gutter Painting:
Gutter painting helps protect from rusting or corrosion. An added benefit of gutter painting is curb appeal. For many homes, rain gutters are a conspicuous building element. Painting gutters can improve the appearance of your home.
Gutter Screen Installation:
Installing screens is an inexpensive way to keep out most leaves. You should expect smaller debris to get through. With gutter screens, routine gutter cleaning can be reduced from twice per year to once per year for most properties.
Gutter Caulking:
Every end cap, elbow, downspout, or gutter section is prone to leak. Their joints will leak over time. They need to be recaulked when you have a leaky gutter.
Gutter Cleaning:
Before gutter repair, a thorough cleaning is performed to remove all debris. After gutter cleaning, a water test is completed to look for leaks and ensure water is flowing in the right direction.
