Infrastructure Inspections | RayAccess, Inc.
Proudly Serving Los Angeles, Orange County, and Surrounding Areas
RayAccess performs routine (hands-on & drone) inspections that document the structural condition of essential infrastructure assets. For example, we can detect cracking and corrosion before any major damage occurs. Our infrastructure inspection crew supports commercial and municipal sectors. We assure the safety of both facility workers and the general public.
Contact RayAccess to inspect your commercial or industrial asset. We employ the most cost-effective methods to complete inspections with our certified industrial rope access team and FAA-licensed UAV pilots.
Infrastructure inspections document: corrosion, substrate cracks and failures, paint condition, waterproofing issues, water intrusion sources, structural integrity, bolt & fastener torque, surface discontinuities, load limits, etc.
Service Area & Applications:
With HQ in Los Angeles, RayAccess Inc. is conveniently located for jobs in California but may travel to select projects across the USA. Infrastructure inspections are performed in order to maintain safe and daily operations of the following structures and assets:
Oil & Natural Gas Pipelines:
Pipelines carry oil and gas across thousands of miles from wells to refineries. Their metal piping is exposed to strong external forces such as winds, floods, fires, and earthquakes. Oil and gas companies mitigate risk by looking out for any damage that can lead to pipeline ruptures.
Power lines:
Utility companies install and maintain power lines so every building and home has access to electric energy. On difficult terrain, it can be very challenging to monitor this electric infrastructure. With drones and rope access climbers, utility line inspections can be completed with less risk and greater frequency.
Dams, Storage Tanks, and Reservoirs:
Water tanks and reservoirs are a storage place for water – life’s most essential resource. Hazardous dams can bring direct loss of life if they fail.
Piers and Wharves:
These waterfront structures primarily serve as the transition point for marine vessels when they are in port. Although due to their historical importance, some serve as tourist destinations. The waterfront environment leads to extreme corrosion of support beams. Routine pier inspections are a must.
Bridges & Highway Structures:
Motor vehicles and the traveling public trust that their bridges and highway structures are kept safe. Bridge stay cables need to be visually inspected by rope access climbers that look for corrosion or deterioration.
Smokestacks:
Smokestacks are heavily scrutinized by regulators to control emissions. Routine inspections of smokestacks are essential to confirm they are functioning properly. Whether you need exterior or confined space inspections for your smokestack, our certified rope access technicians are ready for the job. We look for abnormalities in steel, brick, concrete, and plastic.
Building Facades, Rooftops & Solar Panels:
While suspended in the air, infrastructure inspection crews are trained to access every inch of a building. Each member is industrial rope access certified to safely navigate setbacks, protruding balconies, large cornices, peaked roofs, and spires.
Cell Towers:
Cell towers have antennas that increase wireless bandwidth to the public. Providing faster and greater cell phone coverage to the masses. Tower companies need to inspect the structural integrity of their towers before a minor deficiency becomes a big problem.
Wind Farms:
Wind turbine farms help protect the environment by providing a cleaner energy alternative to coal. Clean energy companies that operate wind farms need to protect wind turbines so they can maximize their energy output.
Historic towers:
Historical towers serve the public for historic preservation. This is an important way for us to understand the past. Routine inspections of our historical monuments ensure they stand strong. Enabling future generations to learn from stories of the past.
Why Are Infrastructure Inspections So Important?
Infrastructure inspections call out any installation flaws or potential issues deemed unsafe to the public. For example, millions of people travel across U.S. bridges everyday. If one were to collapse, the result in death is likely. It’s essential to ensure infrastructure assets that people rely on are 100 percent safe.
Neglecting infrastructure maintenance makes fixes more expensive later. It’s important to protect the structural integrity of infrastructure assets with routine painting and coating. If the substrate material is damaged the structural components may need to be replaced. It’s much cheaper to repaint a bridge every ten years than replace cable stays, for example.
How Are Drones Used In Infrastructure Inspections?
Drones also called unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) provide a cost efficient way to inspect hard-to-reach infrastructure assets. There are several advantages to using UAVs.
Drones can reduce risk for injury as they remove humans from high risk situations. In addition, drones are the quickest method for obtaining information due to their quick deployment. Drones are equipped with infrared cameras to detect water intrusion by monitoring temperature changes. Lastly, drones can be equipped with sensors to perform in confined spaces.
Industrial Rope Access Support for NDT:
Industrial Rope Access technicians support civil engineers to safely inspect infrastructure assets using ropes. Similar to drones, industrial rope access is a cost efficient way to access hard-to-reach assets. Advantages include greater safety, speed, and versatility.
Industrial rope access requires trained and experienced climbers that are also certified by regulating bodies IRATA/SPRAT. Technicians follow strict protocols keeping safety as the number one priority. Industrial rope access is a non motorized positioning system that requires no heavy machinery. Thus, deployment is much faster than erecting scaffolding or using cranes.
The ability to move vertically or horizontally provides greater versatility to assess areas unreachable by other access methods. Industrial rope access technicians support non destructive testing for infrastructure inspections.
The RayAccess Difference:
Cross-trade Experience:
We do exterior building maintenance having completed thousands of pressure washing, waterproofing, and painting jobs. Given this experience, we are able to better understand and identify problems.
Fall Protection Expertise:
We employ IRATA/SPRAT rope access technicians. We also have experience using the full spectrum of high access equipment including ladders, man lifts, and suspended platforms.
California Based:
RayAccess is based in Los Angeles but capable of mobilizing anywhere in the fifty states for infrastructure inspections.
