Understanding Drone Pressure Washing:

Cleaning drones are powered with a soft wash rig that is stationed on ground level.  The rig is equipped with a motor and pump, intake and spraying hoses, water tanks, and hydro mixer. Since water is supplied to the cleaning drone via hose, it is important there is sufficient clearance for the hose to be raised without any barricades or safety hazards such as telephone lines. 

Cleaning drones typically hover 3 to 6 feet from the building facade and spray water mixed with a cleaning solution directly to the building’s exterior surface. A low pressure water spray allows the solution to penetrate deeply into the pores of the surface material, creating a chemical reaction, and breaking down contaminants. After soft washing, cleaning drones rinse with deionized water at 100 PSI and 8-10 gallons per minute to wash away all dirt and debris.

Benefits of Drone Pressure Washing:

Drone pressure washing offers a range of benefits over traditional cleaning methods, making it a compelling choice for businesses looking to improve effectiveness, safety, and cost savings. 

Unlike pressure washers that scrap away dirt with PSI above 3000, cleaning drones use a soft washing method that applies low air pressure to loosen contaminants with a cleaning solution. Soft washing is most effective for getting rid of algae, mold, mildew, and bacteria as it penetrates beneath the surface. 

Soft washing is also a very safe method that won’t damage materials such as stucco, painted surfaces, or shingles. 

While the initial investment in drone technology may be higher than traditional cleaning equipment, drone pressure washing can be more cost-effective in the long run. Drones can complete cleaning tasks more quickly and efficiently, reducing labor costs, rental fees, and increasing overall productivity.

Challenges and Limitations:

Despite its many benefits, drone power washing faces several challenges and limitations that need to be considered:

Regulations: The use of drones for commercial purposes is subject to FAA regulations and guidelines. Commercial operators must comply with these regulations, and deploy flights only with certified FAA drone pilots.

Weather: Drones are sensitive to weather conditions such as wind, rain, and temperature. Adverse weather conditions can affect the performance of drones and may restrict their ability to operate effectively.

Height: While drones can access hard-to-reach areas, they are still limited in terms of the height they can reach, which is up to 12 stories. This can be a limitation when cleaning tall buildings or structures.

Air Pressure: While drones can effectively clean surfaces, they may not be able to remove tough stains or debris that require cleaning methods above 500 PSI (pounds per square inch).

In the industrial sector, drones clean large equipment and machinery, such as solar panel farms, storage tanks,  towers, and cranes, improving maintenance processes and prolonging equipment lifespan. 

Agricultural industries benefit from drone power washing for cleaning farm equipment, greenhouses, and animal housing, ensuring hygiene and reducing the risk of disease transmission.
