What is a Mullion?
Mullions are part of the anatomy of a window, they also have a deep history. Window design is more than a glass opening. Mullions are part of the window not made of glass. Mullions act as a divider that breaks apart the openings made of glass.
The use of mullions have been both decorative and structural depending on the time period. It is written that mullions were first found in the medieval period in the form of a structural stone pillar that helped hold the building up. Glass was only produced in small panes back then. So windows consisted of several glass panes supported by mullions made of stone. The mullions were used for structural purposes to support both the building and glass.
As time went on mullions became more decorative. Most modern mullions are made of wood, molding, or aluminum. They are primarily used decoratively, and can be found in every style of architecture. With the enhancement of structural stability by architects & engineers, mullions don’t support the weight of the roof or floor.
Challenges of Repainting Aluminum Mullions and Frames
Aluminum is a strong metal but still has a risk of corrosion. This is especially the case in Los Angeles, where there is polluted and salty air. Preventing aluminum corrosion requires special preparation, coating, and repainting with highly electrical resistance materials. We use tested and approved paint manufacturers and high performance epoxy paint to ensure both adhesion and long lasting durability.
How Does Electrostatic Spray Painting Work?
Electrostatic painting is a painting method used by commercial & industrial painters to reduce overspray and minimize the mess from excess paint. It has fast drying benefits so facility operations can perform with minimal disruptions. It is very efficient saving on paint cost, reducing hazardous materials, and total VOCs into the environment.
The way it works is by adding electric charges to atomized paint by using a special painting gun. The paint applied has the opposite charge to the metal item being painted, resulting in a stronger attraction and improved transfer efficiency.
Electrostatic spray painting is one of the most cost-effective ways to paint metal windows frames.
